This sideboard has a very rigorous architectural composition. On a moulded base, two beautiful and powerful columns with smooth and curved shafts rise from the fa\u00e7ade. The back is composed of a long rectangular panel left unadorned and flanked by two half columns.<\/p>\n

Two recessed drawers open in the belt<\/p>\n

The upper level has an almost identical layout to the lower one, but the smooth-shafted columns have been replaced by two columns and two half-columns turned into balusters. They carry an entablature alternating modillions and rosettes.This ceremonial dresser was intended for the display of precious crockery, gold and silverware and sometimes even for the presentation of food.<\/p>\n

The harmony of the proportions, the quality of the walnut wood and the simplicity of the decoration make this piece of furniture a rare example of Henri II furniture made around 1570-1580. The alternating modillions and rosettes under the entablature suggest that it was made in Lyon.<\/p>\n
