Distinctively Swiss in character and incorporating Italian-style pull-out extensions, this table is remarkable for the lightness and elegance of its proportions and the refinement of its execution.

The openwork base rests on four slender legs, initially straight before developing into finely turned and carved baluster forms. Two high lateral stretchers echo the broader stretcher framing the base, lending balance and architectural coherence to the design.

The substantial tabletop is inset at its centre with a slate panel, elegantly framed by marquetry borders outlined with fine stringing in a contrasting light wood.

An ingenious sliding mechanism allows the original extensions to be drawn out, doubling the overall length of the tabletop. Lateral metal fittings provide an additional connection between the extensions and the main top.

A refined and technically accomplished piece, combining the restrained elegance of Swiss furniture with an ingenious extension system inspired by Italian table-making traditions.
