Description

This beautiful caquetoire in light walnut wood is a perfect example of French Renaissance furniture. Indeed, the armchiur with a tallemouze shape was a French creation of the 16th century. It was, however, only given the name caquetoire in the 19th century. This chair is built on a trapezoidal model, which earned it the name tallemouze, after a cake of similar shape.

On a moulded frame base rises the support structure, consisting at the front of four ringed, curved columns, which extend in the same fashion up to the uprights supporting the curved armrests.

The seat base follows the same overall plan. The openwork backrest features a central colonnette and two feather-like friezes on the sides. The rear legs are straight and continue upward to frame the backrest. The crest rail displays an elegant decoration of interlaced bands ending in volutes.

With its balanced proportions, sturdy and thoughtful construction, and restrained, elegant ornamentation, this caquetoire reflects the refined taste of an era in which grace and moderation in no way diminished majesty.
