Description

The overall decoration of this fine armchair is in fact derived from that of the preceding period, under the Valois court. The Doric columns formerly employed are here divided in two and joined by means of one or two spherical elements, with the addition of moulded cubic blocks that allow the various parts to be articulated together.

The armchair retains the low backrest characteristic of the 16th century and rests on a base with legs connected by an H-shaped stretcher.

The front legs are joined at the upper section by a horizontal rail. The same decorative motif appears on the central bar of the H-shaped stretcher and on the armrests, though with a single spherical element. The armrests terminate in moulded blocks and rest on supports extending from the front legs.

The seat is upholstered in a fine yellow fabric, lending a sense of richness and refinement to the whole
