Description

Cradle of the Nativity in carved, polychromed, and gilded wood, decorated with cherub heads, friezes, and foliated scrolls.

Around the edge runs an inscription:

“O MAGNVM MINISTERIVM ADMIRABILE SACRAMENTUM DAILIA VIDERET”

The inscription echoes the Gregorian chant of Christmas Matins:
O great mystery and wondrous sacrament, that animals should see the newborn Lord lying in a manger!
