Description

This beautiful pair of ceremonial armchairs from the Henri II period, dating from the early Renaissance, is carved in walnut wood with a well-preserved patina.

The turned, ringed column legs are connected by a square stretcher. The curved, molded armrests ending in volutes rest on supports with ball motifs and ring-turned balusters. These decorative elements are repeated across the openwork backrests, which are perfectly architectural in design. They are arranged in two symmetrical rows framed by three straight molded horizontal rails.

The sense of order and proportion, combined with the refinement and elegance created by these openwork details, lends a remarkable lightness to this pair—an outstanding example of fine French furniture from the Henri II period.
