Description

Through her work as a mosaicist, Béatrice Serre enjoys exploring civilisations, myths, nature and space. Her approach to her work can be summed up in the following quote : ” Stones are the messengers of time and mosaics are its history”.

For Béatrice Serre, art is first and foremost a philosophy. Her art is undoubtedly steeped of spirituality. The idea is to break the material to create chaos in order to rebuild, reassemble. To bring out and reveal something new and greater, something that will simply overwhelm us.

Her preferred materials are glass that she sculpts with japanese pliers, minerals with dreamy hues, slate and lava.

Sometimes other more original material colour her creations, such as shells, coffee beans or semi-precious stones. What is important is to make the artwork come alive, like an explosion, a pulse of life. The idea of Creation then takes on its full meaning.

Béatrice Serre likes to handle the most surprising materials with this underlying idea of texture. The artwork is brought alive thanks to the touch which goes from hot to cold, smooth to granulated or even grainy. For her, touch is essential because it contains all the other senses. In this sense, her works are fundamentally sensual.

Working simultaneously on volumes and materials, she practices visualization for a most hypnotic result.

She sees the work emerging and growing. From then on, the process is no longer mental but physical, when the hand overtakes the imagination. The gesture follows the thought, and sometimes precedes it, and thus the art of mosaic takes on its full meaning.

The Cosmos is intrinsically linked to her work. If mosaics are about details, the very small and patience, it is to bring it closer to what is bigger, to space.

The immensely big is linked to the very small, and when ceramics are made, even the smallest of the piece has its place.

Telluric, her work springs up, radiates, emits energies and invites us to dreamlike escape. Béatrice Serre works on each one of them with passion and instinct to create an alchemy and harmony in order to offer us works full of surprise that never cease to enchant and amaze us.
