Description
This reliquary bust takes on the features of a young woman. Sculpted in the round from beautiful walnut wood with some traces of polychromy, she is presented in a most natural attitude.
Her elaborate headdress, held in place by a veil, a lace, and a fibula, reveals beautifully drawn curled locks of hair.
Under high arched eyebrows, large eyes illuminate her youthful face. Smiling, her full face reveals a straight nose.
She wears a dress with a neckline and puffed sleeves with fine pleats, and on her chest, beneath a jewel, a cavity is revealed which served as a receptacle for relics intended for the piety of the faithful. Today, it offers the sight of medals added later; souvenirs of processions and pilgrimages.
The artist behind the creation of this bust managed to render the perfect modeling of the face, while giving it an expression of great softness and full of joviality.
