Description
This beautiful cassone in walnut wood, elegantly carved and molded, rests on two scrolled feet typically Venetian.
Rectangular, this cassone opens with a flap molded with fleuron shells. Below a belt presents a frieze of palmettes.
The front of the cassone offers a decoration of two grotesques on the prominent uprights framing a long central panel further back bordered by a molding of shells reminiscent of that of the top of the chest.
The low cornice is crowned with a large frieze of ovoids with acanthus leaves at the corners.
The sides are soberly centered with wrought iron handles for transporting the cassone containing the owner’s effects when traveling to his various homes.
