Description

Seating on a bench-like throne the Virgin carries her child on her left knee.

She bears an important crown high on her head .The Virgin has an ovoid face with bulging eyes, straight long nose and thin lips. The hair parts in the middle and are carved as thick horizontals parallel hair strands. She wears a belted dress with a blouse effect on the waist and a cloak falling on her right knee with vertical pleats.

The crowned child holds his right hand up as a gesture of benediction.

The position of the Child is no longer as hieratic, or frontal as it was at the beginning of the twelfth century, but its face remains directed towards the viewer.
